Our Team

Anne Schonfield (Principal) founded Schonfield Consulting in 2004.  She specializes in program evaluation, due diligence, applied research and grant-making support. Prior to becoming a consultant, Anne worked for two decades in the non-profit and public sectors, including International Development Exchange, Pesticide Action Network, Catholic Relief Services/ Zimbabwe, Congressman Gary Ackerman's office and others. Anne has a MA in City and Regional Planning from the University of California/Berkeley and a BA from Dartmouth College.  She lives in Berkeley, California and serves on the Board of Directors of the Berkeley YMCA. Anne enjoys biking, skiing, backpacking, reading fiction and volunteering at her kids' schools.  To see Anne's resume, click here

Van Nguyen (Associate) Van is passionate about equipping private, not-for-profit and public sectors clients with strategic market insights that allow organizations to operate at their peak potential. As a strategy consultant at Accenture and Kaiser Permanente, Van has worked with a broad range of clients from statewide government agencies to venture capital firms, using a unique blend of analytics and design thinking. Van is a proud “double Bear” earning both his Masters of Public Policy and Bachelor of Arts at the University of California, Berkeley. 

Anna Martin (Associate) has worked on program design and strategy, evaluation, and applied research for 20 years, both in the US and globally. As a consultant deeply dedicated to listening, learning and using data to inform strategy, she has worked with a variety of foundations and non-profit organizations, including the Hesperian Foundation, the Roberts Enterprise Development Fund (REDF), the University of California (Berkeley), and CARE. Anna received her Ph.D. from the Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene & Public Health and her MA from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. 

David Lorey (Associate) Since 2003, David has worked with a broad array of non-profits in California, nationally and internationally on organizational, program, and operational strategy.  David specializes in performance assessment, research, survey design, data analysis and strategy development. From 1997 to 2003, he was Program Director at the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, developing a grant portfolio that grew from $4 million to $26 million.  David holds an M.A. and Ph.D. from UCLA and is the author or editor of 18 booksDavid is fluent in Spanish. 

Elana Pontecorvo (Program Assistant) has worked with Reading Partners (literacy program in Oakland CA), at Pennsylvania School for the Deaf, and as a Spanish language tutor.  Elana’s international experience includes studying at Universidad Católica de Valparaiso (Chile), volunteering at a community radio station in El Salvador, and working as a research assistant in Nepal.  Elana holds a BA from Oberlin College and is fluent in Spanish. 


We also work with other contractors as needed, including Cutting Edge Design, for graphic design and communications support.
