About us

We bring decades of experience and a hands-on approach to design strategies for nonprofits to increase their impact and more effectively reach their goals.

Schonfield Consulting is a woman-owned, Bay Area based consulting firm focused on strategy and impact. Since 2004, we’ve worked with over 60 local, national and international organizations on fundraising, strategic planning, evaluation, grantmaking and other services.

How it began

Anne’s career began in service. She traveled to Sudan to work on famine relief with Congressman Gary Ackerman, organized a watershed development project and other efforts in Zimbabwe and South Africa with Catholic Relief Services, and led an international advocacy team at the United Nations’ Montreal Protocol.

Anne founded Schonfield Consulting in 2004 to help nonprofits and foundations increase their impact. Anne’s first clients included household names such as The Gates Foundation, Starbucks Foundation, Salesforce, Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, as well as local non-profits including East Bay Community Foundation, Natural Resources Defense Council and Valley Health Foundation.

Anne then returned to the U.S., working for 8 years with Pesticide Action Network to ban the pesticide, Methyl Bromide, on local, state and international levels. After PAN, Anne was Co-Executive Director at International Development Exchange (now Thousand Currents), which provides grants and critical support for grass roots organizations in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

Since 2004, Anne’s team has grown. Schonfield Consulting now has multiple Associate Consultants, who bring deep experience, a wide range of skills and a passion to help each client succeed. With our “client first” consulting approach, we have helped over 60 leading nonprofits and philanthropies in the Bay Area and across the globe to maximize their effectiveness and make transformational change.

Consulting Approach

Our approach is to design and implement carefully crafted frameworks and strategies, while getting the job done. We are active thought partners, will help to drive deadlines, but will take the lead on deliverables without imposing significant time burdens on staff.

Engaged and Collaborative

Since Schonfield Consulting is a founder-led firm, one advantage we offer is that clients work one-on-one with Anne and her consultants, who bring deep experience and a wide range of strategy, fundraising and assessment skills to all projects.

Founder-led

We use a collaborative “client-first” approach, focused on deeply understanding each client’s strengths and challenges, and developing realistic plans to reach your goals. We will gather input, analyze data and then make concrete, actionable recommendations to help you “get there.”
